Great news for Missouri families! The MOScholars K-12 scholarship program is introducing several important changes designed to make the application process more flexible and family-friendly. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming improvements.
Extended Application Window
The application timeline for the 2026-27 school year is getting a major upgrade. The new application window will open in October and will remain open through March, giving families significantly more time to complete their applications at their own pace.
While the extended deadline offers greater flexibility, we still encourage families to apply early to ensure the smoothest processing experience.
More Flexibility in School Selection
One of the most exciting changes addresses a common concern many families face: what if you're not sure which school is the right fit?
The updated process now allows you to:
Submit your initial application with your preferred school choice
Change your school selection later if your plans evolve
Make updates to your application anytime before the end of March deadline
This flexibility means you don't have to rush into a decision before you're ready.
How to Get Started
The application process begins with a pre-qualification survey submitted through your chosen school's Educational Assistance Organization (EAO). You can find a list of participating schools and their affiliated EAOs on the MOScholars "How to Apply" page. Some EAOs have already posted their surveys and are ready to accept submissions.
If you don't see your preferred school on the list, don't hesitate to contact the school directly – they may have recently joined the program. If they're not yet participating, we are here to help connect schools with the program.
Options for Homeschool Families
Families pursuing homeschool or Family Paced Education (FPE) scholarships can apply through either of these two EAOs:
There are varying scholarship amounts for FPE families so make sure to reach out to the EAOs to inquire.
Important Information for Current Participants
If your family is already enrolled in the MOScholars program, expect to receive your continuation survey earlier than in previous years – possibly as soon as November. This accelerated timeline is designed to streamline the renewal process for returning families.
If you are adding a sibling to the program you will need to fill out a new application for that child but rest assured that you will have priority over new families.Â
Earlier Award Notifications
Perhaps the most welcome change: families can expect to receive scholarship award notifications much sooner than before. With the new timeline, you might even get your award notification before the end of the current school year – giving you plenty of time to plan ahead for the fall.
What's Next?
The Missouri State Treasurer's office is currently finalizing program details and will be releasing a program one-pager along with an updated parent handbook. We will continue to share updates as dates and procedures are confirmed. Keep on the lookout for communication from your EAO. They will have the most timely information.Â
These changes reflect the program's commitment to supporting Missouri families in accessing quality educational options. Stay tuned for more information, and get ready for a smoother, more flexible application experience for the 2026-27 school year!
